I am born. Edgewater Hospital, 1981. Now, Edgewater Hospital has been closed after a Medicare fraud scandal. That is such, like, a deep symbol of my life. Because…uh, I also defraud Medicare.*
Currently I’m the political editor at GapersBlock.com.
I began writing about local politics on the internet in December 2001, after I got back from a trip abroad. We founded Gapers Block about a year later. Not to brag (but totally to brag), I was one of a very small handful of local politics bloggers at the time, and got a bit of internet attention from a piece I wrote (that I cringe to think about now) called The Gentrification Myth. Later I wrote a mean piece about Boston that got me a bunch of negative attention. Since then I’ve written hundreds of columns about local and state politics, leftism, the Enlightenment, and pop culture.
I grew up all along Devon Avenue, from the lake to the airport, and went to the University of Illinois at Chicago. I know: you get it, I’m Chicago-y.
*Not really.
sarah d. and chris j. both told me to contact you. need advice. minor bullshit emergency. email me.
